Hanover Township Lions Celebrate Eight Decades of Community Service

Over the past weekend, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Hanover Township Lions Club! The year was 1945. America had just landed on Iwo Jima, President Roosevelt passed away and the world witnessed the first use of the atomic bomb. Amidst global uncertainty, a group of community members in Hanover Township came together to charter what would become one of the most impactful humanitarian organizations in our region. For 80 years, the club has embodied the very best of service, compassion and civic leadership.

Congratulations on 80 remarkable years of service and wishing many more to come!

A Day at the Bike and Scooter Rodeo

I recently rolled through the Fairview Township Municipal Park Bicycle/Scooter Rodeo. What a ride! The township’s recreation board and board of supervisors did a fantastic job bringing the community together. The kids tested their skills on the obstacle course, had their bikes and scooters inspected and got safety tips from our township police. We even gave away new bikes and helmets!

PennDOT Seeking Workers for Winter Maintenance Program

While we are still feeling the summer heat, PennDOT is preparing for cooler temperatures by gearing up for its winter maintenance program.

Positions available may include CDL equipment operators, mechanics, dispatchers, tradesman helpers and semi-skilled laborers. The positions pay between $17.38 per hour to $28.37 per hour. The winter maintenance program runs from September through April.

Anyone wishing to apply should visit www.employment.pa.gov and go to the PennDOT Winter Maintenance Program posting.

Upcoming Event:

  •   Shredding and electronics recycling, Saturday, Aug. 9, Crestwood High School, 281 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top, 18707. The event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The shredding event is available at no cost and gives individuals the opportunity to securely dispose of sensitive information. There is a limit of three boxes per car.

The electronics recycling program will be handled by a third-party recycling company out of Berwick. It helps to prevent difficult-to-dispose-of electronics from being illegally dumped. The electronics recycling event allows for free disposal of items such as computers (laptops and desktop), smartphones, tablets, printers, office phones, video game consoles, modems, routers, cameras, DVD players, VCRs, audio/video equipment, wires and chargers, hard drives, memory cards, power tools and appliances.

Other items, such as LCD monitors, televisions and floor copiers, can be disposed of for a nominal fee to the recycling company.

Please contact my offices in Nanticoke, 570-902-4082, or Mountain Top, 570-403-2371, with questions about the electronics recycling program.
