Ryncavage: Nealy $1.25 Million Awarded for Local Projects

May 22, 2025

HARRISBURG - Rep. Alec Ryncavage (R-Luzerne) today announced $1.24 million in Local Share Account grants from gaming revenues have been awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to projects in Luzerne County.

Local Share Account grants support economic development, job training, community improvement and public interest projects through gaming funds under Act 71 of 2004.

“Supporting these community projects is one of the most effective ways to create lasting, positive change while easing the burden on our municipal budgets,” Ryncavage said. “These investments strengthen our neighborhoods, improve quality of life, and ensure that vital improvements don’t come at the expense of local taxpayers.”

Those receiving grants were:

Edwardsville Borough - $150,000 for roadway paving.
Fairview Township
- $60,000 to purchase a maintenance vehicle.
Hanover Township - $50,000 for mural painting and $250,000 for road resurfacing.
Larksville Borough - $30,000 to replace HVAC units at the Municipal Building, and $20,000 for improvements at the American Legion 655 banquet hall.
Nanticoke City - $176,000 for structural improvements at City Hall.
Newport Township - $60,000 for sidewalk improvements.
Plymouth Borough - $40,000 to construct a new playground.
Rice Township - $61,987 for stormwater and roadway repairs.
Wright Township - $350,000 for road repair on Terrace Drive and Oak Drive.

The 119th Legislative District is part of Luzerne County and includes the city of Nanticoke; the townships of Fairview, Hanover, Newport, Plymouth, Rice, and Wright; and the boroughs of Ashley, Edwardsville, Larksville, Plymouth, Sugar Notch, and Warrior Run.
